Bt.com/shop Review

There are few companies in the UK telecom sector which attract such differing views as those afforded to BT (www.bt.com). Often accused of being out of touch in the past there have been some remarkable changes to the group over the last few years. While their traditional landline phone business continues to see diminishing returns, they have branched out into broadband and IT services, making a play for both the consumer and business markets. The increased competition from an array of different companies has made BT a much leaner and meaner machine, more than capable of holding its own in the cut throat world of telecommunications. Collaboration agreements with a host of content providers have seen BT gain a strong position in the download market, although the recent deal with Microsoft for access to the Xbox user base has done more than most to push their movie download business to the forefront of the consumer market. BT Shop sells a growing range of exciting digital products including Britain’s largest range of BT home phones, faxes, home networking equipment, digital cameras, MP3 players, PCs, laptops, printers, modems, home security and much more.

I initially signed up for bt click and buy on 1st November 2007 but have not used this at all. However I noticed that
Average Customer Review::During last week 27th May BT Consumer shop debited my bank account to the sum of £911.70 without my authorisation or knowledge. To buy on line you need to set up an account with bt,I have not set up an account with them at any time. It is evident that that bt had not carried out the checks they claim to do. Having checked my bank account on the 28th and found the debit I rang bt to complain and get the matter put right, it was like talking to an infant at school (sorry thats an intelligence level too high). The staff spoken to did not want to know of my problem and claimed they did not know bt had a consumer shop on line. To say that BT staff are inadequately trained to deal with customers is an understatement. Three emails to complain and ask for information have been ignored by bt. Even an official request for them to supply the name of their Data Controller under the Data Protection Act has received no responce. This company is a joke and can only by likened to a set of con artist who use their size to ignore the consumer. I hope my experience acts as a warning to all you people out there and that you do not get screwed by them in the future. Sorry about the rating at one but it does not have a facility for a minus figure
