Talktalk.co.uk Review

Like so many services and products which have attempted to break the mould, Talk Talk (www.talktalk.co.uk), the innovative new phone service from the Carphone Warehouse was ridiculed by many and analysts in the city began to openly question the strategy of Chief Executive Charles Dunstone – the man who made Carphone Warehouse what it is today. A short time after the launch we saw the company acquire the broadband division of AOL UK and add this to their Talk Talk service, allowing the company to reach critical mass far quicker than anyone had ever considered. Apart from the original Talk Talk service which allows you to make free phone calls for a set monthly fee, we have seen a major expansion in broadband customers and a new market for the Carphone Warehouse products. Dunstone has shown great initiative moving the company forward, often going against the thoughts of the masses, well who is right now?

I received a cold call one day asking if I wanted to take a look at TalkTalk (www.talk-talk.co.uk) and I thought why not, but I should have gone straight to the company themselves. I was being sold the plan by an agent who was on commission and they were not totally honest about the charges and what I would be getting. Once it was all installed and ready to go it was not quite what I expected so I contacted Carphone Warehouse to complain. I explained what had happened and they took action against the agent, gave me a couple of free months and I now know how to use it and what to expect. I should have gone there in the first place! Since then the service has been excellent, I’m one very happy TalkTalk customer.
Average Customer Review::All my friends have Talk Talk so I thought id give it a go but I wish I had not bothered! The reconnection did not go through on time and was left without a phone for 3 days. It was only when I complained that I found the form had been filled in wrong but fair credit to Talk Talk they did sort the problem as soon as I mentioned it. Still a little disappointed, so i only give Talk Talk 3 stars.
Average Customer Review::I was a little sceptical about joining Talk Talk because it all seems a little too good to be true, but it does work and my bills have been slashed. While it’s not quite as I first thought, more of my friends have been looking at it and its looks like I will be saving even more money very soon!
Average Customer Review::I have been with talk talk for 18 months at 1st the after service was a joke at times i felt both suicidal and murderous but they have started to get their act together thh phone service is 1st class and broadband is getting very very good, not brilliant but i think on my experiences they soon will be .KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
Average Customer Review::I have been with talktalk.net for 4 years. I turn on and get a frozen screen. When it moves on to Outlook Express I get ‘programme not responding’. I have spent not just hours but days getting nowhere, and then on 15th May 08 ALL my information disappeared completely! I have no incoming mail, no outbox, sent or anything. When I queried it - more than once - they told me they could do nothing and that I woud hAVE TO GET A PRIVATE COMPUTER EXPERT IN (to my cost!) It has been a sequel of just ‘passing the buck!’. Most of their operators are foreign and I can’t understand - or even hear - most of them and they do not have a ‘hard of hearing’ section. ps Neither have I ever had a directory!
Average Customer Review::you encouraged me to have on-line billing which I duly applied for. Everything was o.k. for some time, but about 18 months ago the bills stopped coming. I changed my e-mail provider to talktalk and also requested this change to be made for my bills. Nothing happened. I have since rung you, found it very difficult to make myself understood and to understand the indian person on the other end, now given up. may try again later when my nerves recover. Still no on-line bill Not happy with this service but everything else o.k.
Average Customer Review::I dont understand why people are negative about Talktalk, sure they had their problems when they first launched, but that was over two years ago. Things now are really good. The service and product are great, I would highly recommend them.
Average Customer Review::I have to agree with John G, above. Talktalk are really rather good. Much better than both Virgin and Sky, both of who I have had loads of trouble with. Moved to Talktalk and have been really surprised at how goodthe service is.

Average Customer Review::Phone line and hence broadband went out totally on December 17; and I lost a day of working time, having to call the help line repeatedly, being put on hold each time for up to half an hour and more, and then having to reinstall.
Now, on January 7, I lost the broadband connection and hence another day of working time. I had to report the fault a number of times, waiting so long on hold each time, and then eventually re-establish the broadband account. The problem was caused by a fault in the phone line, or so I’ve been told.
Subsequently, I’ve been losing the broadband connection intermittently, in intervals of about 15 - 45 minutes, throughout the day, each day. Calling the help line about this on successive days, whenever I could get through, I was told again – over my crackling phone line — that the problem evidently is being caused by a fault in the line. Well, one should expect that the company would examine the phone line as it is their responsibility — but, no. I’ve just learned that no-one bothered to report this problem to the “phone line fault team”. I’ve had to do this, by phoning them yet again, four days now into the current bout of problems. So, now, this evening, the “phone line fault team” assures me that they will be looking into the problem but can’t tell me when.
I’ve never had any such problems with any other provider. I switched to TalkTalk in November. These problems began in December, never before. The responsibility for the phone line belongs to TalkTalk, and they admit it – all of which begs the question, why is happening with TalkTalk?
I remain bound to the 18 month contract, though (or so they tell me), as Ofcom allows them one month to remedy any faults and each new incident starts a new month (or so they say). If true, then the loss of service in December does not carry over in a time-frame to this current bout, all within one month, because the problem in December appears to have been solved and its ticket was closed. If so, then such problems could go on indefinitely, could be interminable.
So, for this deficient and sometimes non-existent service to which I remain bound by contract, I give TalkTalk a rating of “1″ — a point deserved as the crackling phone line and hence broadband does work sometimes.
