uSwitch.com Review

Over the last couple of years we have seen the cost of a whole range of utility services continue to rise and rise, with very little way to check the competition – until now. While you may know the company from those annoying TV adverts, Uswitch (www.uswitch.com) have crashed into an area of business which has proved very lucrative for them. Initially they offered comparison services on the major utilities such as gas, electricity and water but this has now been expanded to include mobile phones, broadband, digital TV, car insurance, loans, credit cards, current accounts and much more. Not only do they inform you of the cheapest services available to you, they will also arrange for your new provider to complete the process with as little recourse to you as possible. Uswitch have managed to save thousands of customers literally millions of pounds and they continue to attract more and more business.

Uswitch certainly did the business for us when we decided to look for a cheaper electricity supplier. I called them up, agreed a deal over the phone and they did the rest. I reckon they have saved us about £200 over the last 2 years. If anyone can beat that then please let me know!
Average Customer Review::I logged onto the website the other day to check the best gas prices and see they do everything now, broadband, mobile phones, loans and credit cards. I spent the whole afternoon checking out the best deals and I reckon I have saved myself about £300 a year already and I’m not even finished yet!
Average Customer Review::I used Uswitch after I got one of their leaflets through my door last year. The leaflet promised massive savings and said they would do it all. I signed up but they forgot to connect me back up and the transfer took about a month! That said I reckon they have saved me a few hundred pounds on my gas bills and for the first time I won’t be dreading my bill in the New Year. I’m not saying that I would recommend them to anybody but they did get there in the end and the savings were as I was promised.
Average Customer Review::Switcher beware!
It may just be a temporary glitch (around March/April 2008), but the figures uSwitch are calculating for electricity tariffs seem to be way off. I only found this out when I realised that the company I’d switched to were actually more expensive than the one I’d switched from - and that was taking into account the recent price rises and any available discounts.
I then checked the prices directly with the two electricity companies in my specific case, built my own price comparison spreadsheet and checked the results with each of the companies and they confirmed my findings.
I’ve reported this error of £120/year (uSwitch quoted a £60 saving by switching when in fact it was a £60 increase) to uSwitch and they’re investigating.
So before you change suppliers check the prices of your current supplier and the one uSwitch recommend you switch to, to make sure it doesn’t end up costing you money as it did in my case.
(I switched back to my old supplier as a result, directly with them rather than going through the uSwitch site again).
