Championed as the first consumer led company to attack the mobile phone sector, Virgin Mobile (www.virginmobile.com) first came into being in 1999. While Virgin do not have their own network as such, renting network space from partner T-Mobile, this has not stopped the company from growing rapidly over the years. As a vital element of the Virgin Media / NTL merger of 2006, Virgin Mobile is now part of a major media group with worldwide exposure, and the resources to invest substantially into the operation. Virgin Mobile have access to the latest handsets available, a number of great packages and a growing band of add on services such as broadband, etc. The Virgin brand name has assisted in many ways but it is the move to NTL which has the potential to push the group into the mass market where business is still very brisk. As the first so called “œvirtual network”, the company has led where so many have followed.
