While there is no doubt that Richard Branson has high hopes for his Virgin Money (www.virginmoney.co.uk) off-shoot, few could argue that the business has lived up to its high profile entrance into the world of finance. However, as with a vast array of Bransons ventures there always seems to be a back up plan and the rumoured acquisition of the struggling Northern Rock Bank, while risky, could give the venture the high profile billing which it needs. Virgin Money as it stand offers your traditional credit card, loans, mortgage and insurance services to name but a few but still lacks critical mass. It will be interesting to see the future direction of the group whether the Northern Rock bid is successful or not, because Branson has very rarely failed in any of his ventures. For a company renowned for their high levels of service the only thing missing is the critical mass we mentioned earlier but few would back against Virgin Money breaking into the top tier of the finance industry with the Virgin millions behind it.
